Drug Education CD

Drug Education in Culturally Diverse Classrooms

Client - NSW Department of Education and Training (DET)

2004

This drug education resource was developed to provide a self-access, professional development program to assist teachers to implement culturally specific tobacco and alcohol education with students from backgrounds other than English.

The program assists schools in providing sustainable professional development for drug education with individual teachers or groups by:

  • encapsulating training and learning from the culturally specific alcohol and tobacco education pilot project
  • delivering school-based, ongoing learning regarding how teaching and learning activities might be tailored to the task
  • how parent and community support can be engaged.

It offers choices and pathways that suit the different learning needs of individual teachers and schools.

Case study videos of key stakeholders from community groups, teachers and students assist in making this a rich resource for teachers. An investigation scaffold has been integrated with each video. Teachers also benefit from a comprehensive set of classroom activity and strategy support documents.
